When most people think of Las Vegas, they think of gambling, parties, showgirls, gangsters and everything else you see on television and in movies. But believe it or not, Las Vegas has plenty to offer nature lovers who aren’t into any of that. A perfect example is Springs Preserve, located at 333 South Valley View Boulevard in Las Vegas.
Springs Preserve is 180 acres of Las Vegas art, culture, history, and of course, nature. The preserve aims to “provide a vision for a sustainable future” and puts an emphasis on eco-friendly art and public education. The Preserve is divided into three main areas of attraction: the DLC Patio Gallery, the ORIGEN Experience, and the Gardens. All three areas offer something for visitors of all ages.
Springs Preserve’s DLC Patio Gallery is located on the top floor of the Desert Living Center and features an variety of traveling art exhibits including photography, painting and more that change quarterly. All of the art showcased here centers on sustainability as a theme, and tends to be a little more thought provoking than the works you might see at an ordinary gallery. If you’re looking for a way to stimulate your mind as well as a great conversation, the DLC Patio Gallery is the place to do it.
ORIGEN comes from a combination of the words “original” and “generations,” and the ORIGEN experience is a fun, unusual and interactive way to learn about the natural history and inhabitants of Las Vegas and what is being done to sustain and conserve them. Video games, documentary films, live animal habitats and more are used to inspire your present state of mind and your future choices in life.
The Gardens of Springs Preserve is a wondrous, beautiful place filled with a colorful, lively assortment of plant life including cacti, palms, roses, vegetables, fruits, herbs and more. Enjoy a cooking demonstration using herbs grown here, or bring a troubled plant of your own for a visit with Doctor Green Thumb. With eight acres of natural plant beauty to explore, as well as almost 2 miles of walking trails through 110 acres of natural habitat, you’re sure to enjoy a fun-filled day of nature.
