Basketball in Vegas
For a city that does not have an NBA team, Vegas sure is a popular destination for hoop fans.
Las Vegas plays host to two conference matches, and each one offers a preview to the Big Dance, as well as an opportunity to catch a couple of great basketball games.
The Mountain West Conference men’s and women’s championship game was held at the Thomas & Mack Center last March 10-13. Teams from UNLV, San Diego State, BYU, Utah, TCU, Colorado State, Wyoming, Air Force and New Mexico competed for a spot in the desired field of 65. This year, Mountain West is sending a league-record Four Men’s Basketball Teams to the NCAA Tournament; and now that your first round brackets are filled out, sit back and enjoy the competition in one Las Vegas’ many sportsbook locations.
Vegas Golf
Las Vegas is one of the best places to play golf, thanks to its renowned championship courses.
The Wynn Las Vegas houses the only resort golf course on the Las Vegas Strip. The 18-hole championship golf course boasts of a 35-foot waterfall and a man-made mountain that provides golfers privacy.
Just 30-minutes from the Strip is the Cascata, a par-72 course that is hailed as one of the best designed courses in the world. Designed by Rees Jones, the Cascata features impressive landscaping and stunning views, verdant fairways, lakes and streams, plus a 3,600-foot peak at Red Mountain.
Bear’s Best features 18 replicas of Jack Nicklaus’ finest holes in golf courses from Montana to Mexico. And while you’re at it, stop by the Las Vegas Golf Hall of Fame which features an exhibit of classic photos and memorabilia from Las Vegas golf champions like Jim Colbert, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus, Annika Sorenstam and many more.
Las Vegas Fight Nights
Two sports come to mind when you think about championship fights. The first is boxing. Las Vegas has played host to some of the most exciting championship fights in the history of the sport.
Mixed martial arts is the other one. Thrilling and often bloody, mixed martial arts matches have been drawing crowds to Vegas because of combatants’ skills, guts and the gore that ensues.
